How to Create a Mood Board in Figma with Pinterest and Pin Toolbox: Step by Step Guide
Hello! It's Caleb from Pin Toolbox, and today I'll show you how to create a moodboard in Figma using images that we found on Pinterest. This guide will also introduce you to Pin Toolbox - the Pinterest board downloader for creative professionals, and some really useful Figma plugins!
Step 1: Setting Up Your Workspace
First, open Pinterest and Figma. Pinterest is excellent for finding a vast array of images, while Figma provides an infinite canvas suitable for arranging these images effectively.
Step 2: Using Pinterest to Find Images
Create a Pinterest board to collect images that match the digital aesthetics you’re interested in. In my case, I've chosen stuff I like - digital art, camcorders, and grainy movie stills.
Step 3: Download Images with Pin Toolbox
First, add Pin Toolbox to Chrome, from the Google Chrome webstore and follow the instructions to add it to your menubar. Pin Toolbox allows you to quickly download all images from your Pinterest board at once. For free users, the limit is 15 pins, but with a Pro account you can download unlimited pins.
Step 4: Organize Images in Figma
After downloading, unzip the file containing your images and drag them into Figma. With Figma, you can lay out these images easily to make a moodboard.
Step 5: Refining Your Mood Board
There's a few Figma plugins I find useful when making moodboards.
- Image Grid Plugin: Helps organize images neatly into a grid layout.
- Icons8 Background Remover Plugin: Removes the background from images, useful for creating transparent PNGs.
Step 6: Export Your Final Design
Once your mood board is finalized, use Figma’s export options to save your design for presentations or further editing.
